Hymen
I’d heard about you Hymen....there was no mistake but that your name
Had come to me on more than one occasion.
They said you were desirable...it sounded good.
My own lovely Hymen...how lucky I was to have you.
You would protect me
From the ways of the World..
You’d keep me sweet ...
Men yearned for you....and so did I !
In my dreams....or wherever I went.....
I kept myself attached to you dear Hymen.
It had to be.
The day would come...when He
And I would truly know you...
That day would be filled with an ethereal Paradise..
Scented like the gardens of old Babylon.
It would be the event of my life...
Hymen....Hymen...
The moon would hang like a silken ball ....its soft rays shining down
Tilting the warm breezes to and fro
All would be heavenly...ecstatic...
Rose-buds and birdsong...
Hymen... long before I had expected it...
You and I were in cupid’s embrace
I was carried off in desire...
How my pulses raced
The wheels of passion rolling...rolling.
The time had come...for you dear Hymen..
To be there in my hour of glory.
I lay ...expecting your significance
But you had lied to me...Hymen you had lied
You let me down
On my night of nights I found ...you were not there
Oh bitter winds and thwarted threads
Mendacity in treachery..false words from falser preachers
I had been deceived.
Hymen...I wondered how it was that I’d believed
In such a myth as you.
But soon I saw that it was just another way
Of you....controlling me.
